The Kids of Summer

-

The kids are now part of the FunFest lob ball action.

A ball tournament comprised of four teams – the vast majority of the players were girls between ages 8-12 – was held Saturday at Scotian Ball field in Trenton.

This coming weekend, the annual men’s lob ball tournament will take place during Trenton’s annual FunFest (also, a women’s division has been added this year) and some parents wanted to get the kids involved, too, so the pre-FunFest tournament came into being.

“We wanted the kids to have the same opportunity,” said Robin Hatt, one of the tournament organizers who also helped coach the Trenton Trojans. “Instead of sitting on the couch or playing with their IPads.”

After heavy rain last Friday, organizers spent a couple of hours later that night pushing wheelbarrows and wielding buckets, trying to dry out the field ahead of Saturday’s action.

“We were here with the lights on Friday,” Hatt the next day.

“All the kids are out having fun – there’s no drama. There were no issues and all the parents seemed to have a good time.”

The Beasts from the East were the tournament champions. The tournament was held in conjunction with the Trenton & Area Minor Softball Association’s Learn to Play program, as well as the association’s house league.
