Pitch­ing pow­ers New Glas­gow club to At­lantic cham­pi­onship berth

The New Glas­gow DQ Bl­iz­zards are the 2018 Nova Sco­tia Pee­wee AA Tier 1 base­ball champions.

In Game 1 of a tour­na­ment held this past week­end at the Kins­men field in New Glas­gow, the Bl­iz­zards de­feated Hants North Jays 8-5.

Lan­don Steel was the win­ning pitcher, go­ing five solid in­nings, while Cory MacGil­livray and Cole Bat­tist fin­ished the pitch­ing du­ties to seal the win for New Glas­gow. Lane Loc­head and Jax Gra­ham each went 2-for-3 at the plate.

In their sec­ond game on Fri­day, the Bl­iz­zards de­feated the Yar­mouth Gate­ways 10-7.

Carter Dickson was the win­ning pitcher, go­ing 5 1/3 in­nings and Keinon De­Coste and Gra­ham com­pleted pitch­ing du­ties for New Glas­gow.

Jef­fery Quinn and Mar­shall Brown each had two hits, while De­Coste and Dickson both home­red.

On Satur­day morn­ing, New Glas­gow de­feated Kentville 12-2 in six in­nings. Bat­tist went the dis­tance on the mound to pick up the win.

“(He) showed great com­mand all game and did not come close to his max­i­mum pitch count al­lowed,” said coach Mike Loc­head.

Gage Con­nors had three hits in three at-bats while Blake MacLen­nan picked up a pair of hits. Later that day, the Bl­iz­zards de­feated Springhill 9-0. Loc­head and Gra­ham com­bined for a twohit shutout, strik­ing out 17 bat­ters.

De­Coste picked up three hits while Dickson chipped in with two, in­clud­ing a home run.

New Glas­gow will now rep­re­sent Nova Sco­tia at the At­lantic cham­pi­onships in Fred­er­ic­ton, N.B., Sept. 14 to 16.
