TRAFALGAR, N.S. — Four Pictou County fire departments were fighting a forest fire in Trafalgar on Tuesday.
Six fire fighters with the Department of Lands and Forestry as well 20 firefighters responded to a call to Perch Lake Road Tuesday afternoon to forest fire that burnt about an acre of land. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and under investigation.
Pictou County firefighters as well Lands and Forestry spent days in August 2016 fighting a forest fire in the same area. It had burnt 10 hectares of forest.
A lands and forestry spokesperson said the woody debris on the forest floor and the trees in parts of Pictou County are critically dry and require significant rain to reduce the wildfire risk. In Nova Scotia south shore, Lands and Forestry crews were kept busy late last week and over the past weekend extinguishing four fires in the Oak Park, Oak Park Lake, Pubnico Lake/Barrington River areas in southwestern Nova Scotia.
