Sus­pect sought af­ter boy fights off at­tacker

Po­lice are search­ing for a sus­pect af­ter a 13-year-old Thorold boy used his scooter to fend off a man who at­tacked him. Ni­a­gara Re­gional Po­lice say the boy, whom they have not iden­ti­fied, was walk­ing with his scooter in the area of Clara and Tay­lor streets at about 6:45 p.m., Wed­nes­day, when an un­known man be­lieved to be 50 to 60 years old, ap­proached him from be­hind and wrapped his arms around the boy. Po­lice, who were in­formed about the as­sault at about 9:15 p.m. that evening, say the boy strug­gled and struck the man with his scooter, be­fore flee­ing the area un­in­jured. The sus­pect is de­scribed as a white man, about 50 to 60 years old, 180 lbs, with a shaggy red mous­tache, and wear­ing sun­glasses and a grey mesh hat. A black truck was also seen in the area at the time, although po­lice do not know if the ve­hi­cle was re­lated to the in­ci­dent.
