Mur­der trial for trucker be­gins to­day

The trial of a Bramp­ton truck driver charged with the mur­der of his wife is sched­uled to be­gin Tues­day with jury se­lec­tion in Sar­nia Su­pe­rior Court.

Sukhchain Singh Brar, 52, was charged fol­low­ing a Jan­uary 2016 truck fire on High­way 402 near Sar­nia. First re­spon­ders were dis­patched to the ve­hi­cle fire on Jan. 31, 2016, at about 3:15 a.m.

The body of Gurpreet K. Brar, 37, was found in the burnt west­bound trans­port truck.

Fol­low­ing an ex­am­i­na­tion of the woman’s body in Toronto by the of­fice of On­tario’s chief coro­ner, Brar was charged by the OPP.

A rou­tine pub­li­ca­tion ban on pre-trial pro­ceed­ings re­mains in place.

Pun­jabi in­ter­preters are sched­uled for the trial.
