The 2018 United Way of SarniaLambton campaign is climbing closer to the 60 per cent level as many of the industrial campaigns are beginning to wind down.

“Shell Canada employees are winding down their campaign, and we are hopeful that we will receive those numbers soon,” campaign chair Vicky Ducharme said.

“The Shell campaign ran over a shorter time period this fall, and the campaign team had initially indicated that they were behind their projected target. We have now been told, the site really came together for us in the end and some positive news may be headed our way.”

Shell Canada matches all employee and retiree donations.

INEOS Styrolution is also nearing the completion of its employee campaign and is very close to reaching its campaign goal.

Cabot Canada has already exceeded $32,000 and is just a few thousand dollars from its 2018 goal.

“Many of the Sarnia and Lambton County schools have really come through for us this year,” Ducharme said. “There are a large number of schools that are above last year’s results, and some have doubled, or more than doubled their 2017 results.”

So far, 2,472 donors have already pledged their support, and it is expected that about 5,000 donors are needed to reach the $2-million goal.

“To date, we have reached $1,175,000, and because of the expected Shell Canada Employees results, and a couple large corporate gifts that are due any day, we believe we will have a spike in the campaign figures very shortly,” Ducharme said.

While many industrial employee campaigns are ending, the United Way is focused on new launches, including Lambton College, the City of Sarnia and County of Lambton, Bluewater Health, and just recently, WorleyParsons and SNC Lavalin.

Ducharme said the United Way is pleased to partner with the Dante Club on Thursday, Nov. 15, for a Pasta Fest.

“This is the first time we have collaborated with the Dante Club, and we are excited to welcome individuals and families to the pasta dinner on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.,” she said.

Both eat-in and take-out is available, she added.

Tickets can be reserved by calling the United Way at 519 336-5452, and walk-ins are also encouraged. Tickets are $15 each.
