GANDER, N.L. — Kallie Stone, a Grade 12 student at Clarenville High, was recognized on Friday, May 12 in Gander with a special award for student leadership out of all of Newfoundland and Labrador from the Canadian Association of Principals (CAP).

Nominated by Clarenville High School’s principal, Ian Davidson, he says Kallie is a natural choice for the award.

“She’s an exceptional person,” Davidson told The Packet. “She’s president of our student council, she’s a tireless worker around the school, she volunteers and organizes everything. She’s just a fabulous person.”

He says the award validates all the work she’s put in as a student leader, and since there are so many excellent young leaders in the province, it really puts into perspective how great she is.

Kallie was chosen after being nominated by Davidson and submitting an application to CAP. She will receive a certificate in addition to a $500 scholarship.

She says she was honoured to have been recognized and thankful to Davidson, Janice Harnum, CAP and everyone involved.

But she was surprised when the award was announced.

“I was so shocked that I had actually won and I was very honoured to receive (the award),” Kallie told The Packet.

Kallie also says she will continue to work hard at everything she does.

“Being involved is something I really enjoy and will always continue to do.”

Janice Harnum, principal of Anthony Paddon Elementary in Musgravetown, introduced Kallie at the award presentation in Gander.

Kallie even got a chance to meet Premier Dwight Ball in St. John’s last week, along with Terra Nova MHA Colin Holloway.

She is planning to study geo sciences in post secondary education in the fall.
