Sporting his best Liberal red tie, Pete Soucy stepped into the room at the Clarenville Inn on Monday, surrounded by supporters, MHAs, businesspeople, volunteers, and family.

With an announcement at the podium he made it official — Soucy is officially seeking the Liberal nomination for the federal district of BonavistaBurin-Trinity.

Soucy called the career move a “bold step” with big shoes to fill to replace MP Judy Foote, who resigned this past week.

“She has been our champion for a long time and raised the bar extremely high,” said Soucy to the crowd.

He was introduced by local businessman and former political candidate Roger Jamieson, who will be serving as his campaign manager.

Soucy is best known as a performer and radio talk show host, but has also tried his hand in politics before, having run for the provincial Liberals in 1999.

He says once he heard Foote
