Elec­tion re­sults con­firm new coun­cil for Bon­av­ista

Af­ter sev­eral hours of count­ing bal­lots, the Town of Bon­av­ista’s elec­tion re­sults came in — and John Nor­man was named the com­mu­nity’s first new mayor in 20 years.

Af­ter the polls closed at 8 p.m., about 1,900 votes were counted, nam­ing a new mayor and six coun­cil­lors.

The voter turnout was more than 60 per cent.

John Nor­man de­feated fel­low may­oral can­di­date Bev­erly Dyke 1,327 votes to 636.

The fol­low­ing coun­cil­lors were suc­cess­ful in their bids for a seat, with the amount of votes they re­ceived:
