CLARENVILLE, N.L. — Last week, the Town of Clarenville swore in its new council at a special ceremony at the Eastlink Events Centre (EEC).

and Tilley are all returning to council from last term, Nicholl, Parrott and Pickett are new councillors.

Lloyd Parrott is a first time councillor who chose to come forward because he looks forward to improving the community in which he’s settled his family. They moved to Clarenville in 2011.

all over Canada, with my military experience, and … we thought there was something we could add to this community,” Parrott told The Packet.

He says the council is educated and experienced with an opportunity to further help the town.

As for Nicholl and Pickett, while they are new councillors this go-around, they both have prior experience at the table as members of council.

Nicholl says he was happy to get back to working on behalf of residents to improve their quality of life.

“The previous council has been very successful,” says Nicholl, “The big thing right now is getting up to scratch on what we need to do and where council is at this moment.”

Pickett told The Packet he decided to become involved again because he has a passion for giving back. He retired this year after working in the public service for 43 years.

“I love council work and what they do for the community. I look forward now to working with the rest of council … to make Clarenville a great spot to live.”
