Mil­ton cidery and or­chard project re­ceives en­vi­ron­men­tal ap­proval

The New­found­land Cider Com­pany’s pro­posed project to open a cidery and ap­ple or­chard in Mil­ton has been re­leased from fur­ther en­vi­ron­men­tal as­sess­ment, ac­cord­ing to a bul­letin from the Depart­ment of Mu­nic­i­pal Af­fairs and En­vi­ron­ment is­sued last Tues­day.

It was ap­proved with the con­di­tion that a min­i­mum 30-me­ter nat­u­rally veg­e­tated buf­fer along all wa­ter­courses, wa­ter­bod­ies and wet­lands must be main­tained to pro­tect sen­si­tive ri­par­ian and aquatic species and their habi­tat.

The or­chard will be ap­prox­i­mately five hectares and pro­gres­sively de­vel­oped. With the en­vi­ron­men­tal ap­proval, the com­pany plans to be­gin con­struc­tion of the cidery im­me­di­ately.

The site will be ser­viced by ex­ist­ing roads and power lines.
