Trans­porta­tion and Works fill pot­holes on Ran­dom Is­land

The Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion and Works has been con­duct­ing as­phalt re­pairs on Ran­dom Is­land for the last few weeks, and an­tic­i­pates the work to con­tinue over the next sev­eral days.

On Sept. 18, Sept. 29, and Oct. 4, the depart­ment used a to­tal of 6,480 kg of cold mix as­phalt and 8,200 kg of hot mix as­phalt.

The depart­ment said on Fri­day, Oct. 6, that it was con­duct­ing more work that same day, and ex­pected to con­tinue over the next few days, sub­ject to fac­tors such as weather and avail­abil­ity of as­phalt.

Fund­ing for the road­work is pro­vided un­der provin­cial gov­ern­ment’s an­nual sum­mer main­te­nance pro­gram, funded at ap­prox­i­mately $22 mil­lion for 2017-18.

Res­i­dents of Ran­dom Is­land had taken to fill­ing some of the pot holes them­selves over the past months.
