Betty Fitzgerald honoured with sesquicentennial pin
BONAVISTA, NL — Former Bonavista mayor Betty Fitzgerald is thankful after outgoing Bonavista-Burin-Trinity MP Judy Foote awarded her with the sesquicentennial pin.
The honouree was decided upon after a nomination process. The limited edition collector’s item award was presented during Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations to individuals who made a difference in their communities. The pin includes copper from the original roof of the Parliament Building in Ottawa.
Fitzgerald told the Packet the honour came as a complete surprise, as she wasn’t looking for recognition. She doesn’t know who nominated her, she adds, but is very thankful for the pin.
She was also pleased to receive the award from Foote.
“Judy has been a very good member for us in this area,” Fitzgerald told the Packet.
