Betty Fitzger­ald hon­oured with sesqui­cen­ten­nial pin

BON­AV­ISTA, NL — For­mer Bon­av­ista mayor Betty Fitzger­ald is thank­ful after out­go­ing Bon­av­ista-Burin-Trin­ity MP Judy Foote awarded her with the sesqui­cen­ten­nial pin.

The hon­ouree was de­cided upon after a nom­i­na­tion process. The lim­ited edi­tion col­lec­tor’s item award was pre­sented dur­ing Canada’s 150th an­niver­sary cel­e­bra­tions to in­di­vid­u­als who made a dif­fer­ence in their com­mu­ni­ties. The pin in­cludes cop­per from the orig­i­nal roof of the Par­lia­ment Build­ing in Ot­tawa.

Fitzger­ald told the Packet the hon­our came as a com­plete sur­prise, as she wasn’t look­ing for recog­ni­tion. She doesn’t know who nom­i­nated her, she adds, but is very thank­ful for the pin.

She was also pleased to re­ceive the award from Foote.

“Judy has been a very good mem­ber for us in this area,” Fitzger­ald told the Packet.
