Three years af­ter Stephen Pardy waded into frigid wa­ters off Bon­av­ista to help save a woman from drown­ing, he re­ceived a cer­tifi­cate of com­men­da­tion from the Gover­nor Gen­eral.

RCMP Cor­po­ral Cur­tis Ash­ford save a woman from drown­ing. Pardy doesn’t know how to swim but says he knew the beach well enough to know he would not be out of his depth. Ash­ford him­self re­ceived the medal of brav­ery for his ef­forts. When he is not com­mut­ing to work in Al­berta, Pardy serves on the vol­un­teer fire de­part­ment for Bon­av­ista.
