SCIENS INDUSTRIES CLOSES DOORS
Sciens Industries on Fisher Drive, a maker of precision-machined parts for the aerospace industry which has operated for nearly 20 years in Peterborough, closed its doors on Monday in the city’s Major Bennett Industrial Park. Sciens president Gerry Vandersanden was unavailable for comment Monday but told CHEX-TV that the operation is closing because the bank called its loan after having operated in the red for five years. In April Sciens had announced a new three-year deal SPP Canada Aircraft to make landing gear components for the Dornier Seastar aircraft. About 19 people have been thrown out of work by the closure.
