-

The St. Peter Saints girls hockey team expects to be back at OFSAA next year after a fourth place finish at the 2017 AAA championships in Mississauga. The Saints fell 5-4 to Brantford Collegiate in the bronze medal game Friday afternoon. Chelsea Campbell scored three goals and an assist, Maddy Moloney a goal and three assists while Katelyn Buckton and Danielle MacDowall added assists. “Our girls fought hard to the end scoring twice in the final minutes and pressuring with our net empty,” said Saints coach Wayne Clark. “Our coaching staff is proud of the grit and commitment our girls showed in a hard fought battle. With 12 Grade 9s and 10s on our roster we look forward to the pursuit of a championship next year.” The Saints were defeated 5-1 by Medway in the semifinals Friday morning. It was their first loss in five tournament games. Campbell had the lone goal for St. Peter. “We had a strong start with two posts in the opening shift and very strong play,” said Clark, after the semifinal. “Unable to score on additional scoring chances was our demise. Medway is a strong lineup with top-end talent and compete level.”
