Activities to fete Canada Day in Omemee

There will be many activities in Omemee to celebrate Canada Day.

The Omemee Lioness will hold the annual pancake breakfast, 8 a.m.-11 a.m. at Coronation Hall. After breakfast you can go to the Trinity United Church parking lot for a bake and yard sale and the Lions’ barbecue.

There will be beach activities all day. Washer and ball hockey, face painting, children’s activities and games and a silent auction. If you didn’t pick up a Lions’ burger beforehand, you’ll have another chance at the beach.

The Lions will hold its second annual Ducktona 600 race where 600 plastic ducks will be released and raced to the finish line. Tickets are $5.00 each and selling very quickly. They are available from Lions’ members and Coronation Hall. There will be fifty tickets available July 1. There are great prizes including top prize of $600 and a dawdling duck prize of four dozen duck eggs for the slowest duck.

Youngsters will have a chance to Name the Duck at the boat launch. The winning name will be announced at the completion of the race so ensure that your entry is in before noon.

The evening activities begin at 6 p.m. at the beach with the Black Fly Band. There will be free hotdogs and drinks for children under twelve courtesy of the Lions Club. Everyone can enjoy the special 150th birthday cake before the fireworks at dusk. Free glowsticks, stick on tattoos, Canada Day flags and collectibl­e Canada Day pins will be distribute­d by the Lions members.

Legion golf

The Omemee Legion will hold its annual golf tournament, July 8 at Tamarac Golf and Country Club. It will be a four-person scramble format. Tee-off is 10 a.m., golfers must be at the course by 9:30 a.m. Cost is $45 per person green fee which includes a cart. You must be registered by July 1.

Tea and Talk

There will be a Tea and Talk for Seniors, June 27, 10:30 a.m. - noon at Adelaide Place, 84 Adelaide St. S., Lindsay.

The event presented by Elder Abuse Network will focus on sexual harm and educating caregivers as well as older adults on how to recognize signs of sexual harm and how to respond. To register call705-9284465.

Cooking for One

A Cooking for One class for people living alone who wish to learn about eating well and preparing nutritious meals for one will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyteri­an Church,40 William St. N., Lindsay, June 29, 10 a.m. - noon or 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. You can register for the class presented by Community Care by calling705-879-4100.

Beat Goes On

The Beat Goes On health series for people interested in heart issues will be held June 27, 1:30 - 3 p.m. at 65 Melbourne St. W., Lindsay. This month’s topic is defibrilla­tors and CPR. Call705-324-6111 ext 4145to register.
