Internet scam warning

The Peterborough Examiner - - NEWS -

City of Kawartha Lakes OPP are warning the public about an internet scam circulating in the area.

The scam uses a buy and sell social media site, Const. Carrie Lanning stated, although she did not specify which one.

A City of Kawartha Lakes resident has reported making an agreement to buy a pair of name brand boots through the site, police said.

The resident paid a deposit and the remainder was to be paid upon delivery of the product, police said.

The deposit was paid by e-transfer.

The product was never delivered, police said. The buyer attempted to contact the seller and now the seller has not returned any of these messages, police said.

City of Kawartha Lakes OPP are investigating and are looking to speak with any other residents that may have been victims of the scam. Anyone with information can call Lanning at the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP detachment at 705-324-6741.
