Curbside collection of batteries this week

The Peterborough Examiner - - OPINION - EXAMINER STAFF

A curbside collection of used household batteries is taking place in the city this week.

The one-week-only collection began Tuesday and continues to Friday on regular blue box collection days.

Peterborough residents can place their used batteries in a regular zip-lock plastic bag or in one of the special orange battery-recycling bags that had been delivered to homes for pickup, according to Janelle Carey, the city’s waster diversion co-ordinator.

Battery bags should be placed on top of the blue box used for paper, a release from the city states.

People should ensure the bag is closed so that batteries don’t fall out, the release states.

The city is urging residents not to put batteries in blue boxes or the garbage at any other time.

People who miss the collection or live in an apartment should take their used batteries to the city’s Household Hazardous Waste Depot on Pido Road in the city’s southeast end.
