Knights lose in rugby bronze-medal game
The Fleming Knights men’s rugby team came up short Saturday in their bid for the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association bronze medal.
The Knights, who won the silver medal last season, lost 44-31 to the Georgian Grizzlies on Saturday at J.C. Massie Field in Barrie.
The Grizzlies and Knights went back-and-forth, with each team leading the deciding twice.
Bradford native Nana Ntim scored his second try of the game in the final moments of the first half to give the Grizzlies a 20-19 lead at halftime.
Georgian took their game to another level in the second half, scoring 24 points on four tries and two converts from Noah Spicer (Aurora) to win 44-31.
Henry Do (Brampton) had a huge game, leading the Grizzlies with three tries and was named player of the match for the home side.
Georgian’s other tries were scored by Jordan Carppi (Lindsay), Mark Rodman (Minesing) and Albert Calamatta (Erin).
Corey Finch (Peterborough) was named player of the match for Fleming.
This is the third-straight medal for Georgian’s men’s rugby team, having won gold and silver the previous two seasons.
In the OCAA gold-medal game, Sheridan defeated St. Lawrence (Kingston), 31-29.
