Knights lose in rugby bronze-medal game

The Flem­ing Knights men’s rugby team came up short Satur­day in their bid for the On­tario Colleges Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion bronze medal.

The Knights, who won the silver medal last sea­son, lost 44-31 to the Ge­or­gian Griz­zlies on Satur­day at J.C. Massie Field in Barrie.

The Griz­zlies and Knights went back-and-forth, with each team lead­ing the de­cid­ing twice.

Brad­ford na­tive Nana Ntim scored his sec­ond try of the game in the fi­nal mo­ments of the first half to give the Griz­zlies a 20-19 lead at half­time.

Ge­or­gian took their game to an­other level in the sec­ond half, scor­ing 24 points on four tries and two con­verts from Noah Spicer (Aurora) to win 44-31.

Henry Do (Bramp­ton) had a huge game, lead­ing the Griz­zlies with three tries and was named player of the match for the home side.

Ge­or­gian’s other tries were scored by Jor­dan Carppi (Lind­say), Mark Rod­man (Mi­nesing) and Al­bert Cala­matta (Erin).

Corey Finch (Peter­bor­ough) was named player of the match for Flem­ing.

This is the third-straight medal for Ge­or­gian’s men’s rugby team, hav­ing won gold and silver the pre­vi­ous two sea­sons.

In the OCAA gold-medal game, Sheridan de­feated St. Lawrence (Kingston), 31-29.
