Toronto Rock elim­i­nated from play­off con­tention

With just two weeks left in the Na­tional Lacrosse League reg­u­lar sea­son, no Eastern Divi­sion teams have clinched a play­off spot, but a loss over the week­end by the Toronto Rock (7-9) has knocked them out of con­tention.

The Buf­falo Ban­dits (8-8) can clinch a play­off berth with a win and a New Eng­land Black Wolves (8-8) loss this week­end.

The Rochester Knighthawks (9-7) can clinch a play­off berth with a win. They can also clinch a home play­off game with a win and a Buf­falo loss.

The Ge­or­gia Swarm (9-7) have a bye this week­end and will at­tempt to clinch a spot with two games on the fi­nal week­end of league play.

Seven-point game for Cat­toni

CAL­GARY – Peter­bor­ough Laker Holden Cat­toni had five goals and two as­sists and Chris­tian Del Bianco made 45 saves as the Cal­gary Rough­necks topped the Buf­falo Ban­dits 16-9 in Na­tional Lacrosse League ac­tion Satur­day.

Cal­gary (7-9) se­cured a play­off spot late last month while the Ban­dits (8-8) missed a chance to sep­a­rate them­selves from the pack in the tight East Divi­sion. Buf­falo re­mained tied for third in the divi­sion with New Eng­land.

Laker Shawn Evans had a goal and an as­sist for the Ban­dits while for­mer Cur­tis Dick­son scored two goals and added four as­sists for Cal­gary.

Two goals for Self

DEN­VER — Peter­bor­ough Lakers Brad Self had two goals and Robert Hope one as­sist in a 10-6 Colorado Mam­moth loss to the New Eng­land Black Wolves on Satur­day night at the Pepsi Cen­ter in Den­ver.

Hat trick for Cur­rier

TORONTO - Joe Re­se­tar­its had three goals and four as­sists to lead the Rochester Knighthawks past the Toronto Rock 14-11 on Fri­day in Na­tional Lacrosse League ac­tion, elim­i­nat­ing the Rock from play­off con­tention.

Peter­bor­ough’s Josh Cur­rier and Cody Jamieson also had hat tricks for Rochester (9-7), while Kyle Jack­son scored and added four helpers. Peter­bor­ough’s Cory Vitarelli, Paul Daw­son, Brad Gil­lies and Quinn Pow­less chipped in as well.

Peter­bor­ough Laker Matt Vinc made 41 saves for the win.

Laker Adam Jones had a pair of goals for the Rock.

Rush beat Stealth 20-10

LAN­G­LEY, B.C. - Robert Church scored four goals and set up five more and Mark Matthews had 10 points with seven as­sists as the Saskatchewan Rush dou­bled up the Van­cou­ver Stealth (2-14) 20-10 on Fri­day in Na­tional Lacrosse League ac­tion.

Van­cou­ver, coached by Peter­bor­ough’s Jamie Bat­ley, is win­less in eight home games this sea­son.

Rush goal­tender Adam Shute made 33 saves. Eric Pen­ney and Tye Be­langer com­bined on 43 saves for the Stealth.

Staats has 8-point night

SASKA­TOON - Lyle Thomp­son scored five times and Randy Staats had four goals and four as­sists as the Ge­or­gia Swarm

(9-7) downed the Saskatchewan Rush (13-4) 16-10 on Satur­day in Na­tional Lacrosse League ac­tion.

Peter­bor­ough Laker Evan Kirk and Tyler Carl­son com­bined on 36 saves for Saskatchewan.
