Government invests in Fogo Island
Tourism, fishery industries targeted for development
Both the federal and provincial governments have announced funding to help facilitate economic growth on Fogo Island, sharing the news via press release.
Scott Simms, MP for Coast of Bays-Central-Notre Dame, announced the Atlantic Opportunities Agency would be investing nearly $324,000 into the island.
“The Government of Canada is working with community and business partners to capitalize on opportunities in tourism and the fishery to create new employment and economic growth,” said Simms.
Furthermore, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation also promised a contribution of $100,000 for projects.
With these investments, the Town of Fogo Island is planning to upgrade and expand its network of hiking trails.
