Pub­lic con­sul­ta­tions on re­gional gov­er­nance com­ing to cen­tral

There has been much ado from the pro­vin­cial govern­ment re­gard­ing re­gional gov­er­nance and it seems it has not all been for noth­ing.

As part of the prov­ince’s strat­egy, The Way For­ward: Re­al­iz­ing Our Po­ten­tial, govern­ment an­nounced its in­ten­tion to im­ple­ment a re­gional gov­er­nance model and/ or shar­ing of ser­vices model as ap­pro­pri­ate for New­found­land and Labrador com­mu­ni­ties by 2019.

In a step to­ward the goal, the Depart­ment of Mu­nic­i­pal Af­fairs and En­vi­ron­ment has an­nounced it is seek­ing pub­lic in­put to help in the de­vel­op­ment of the re­gional govern­ment model.

The depart­ment will host 22 in- per­son pub­lic con­sul­ta­tions across the prov­ince. Twill­ingate will be the first lo­cal com­mu­nity to host a con­sul­ta­tion ses­sion, at the Crow Head Com­mu­nity Cen­tre Sept. 18. Grand Falls- Wind­sor will host the event on Sept. 20, and res­i­dents on Gan­der will have an op­por­tu­nity to voice their opin­ion on Oct. 2. The Town of Lewisporte will host its re­gional ses­sion Oct. 3.

All ses­sions are sched­uled to take place be­tween 7 and 9:30 p.m. in their re­spec­tive com­mu­ni­ties.
