It’s been 10 years of Seniors Info Fairs at the exhibition and each is more successful than the last. The one-day event on Seniors Day at the BCNE was held last Thursday and saw a bumper crop of attendees visiting more than 60 booths with local businesses and organizations showcasing the products and services they offer, said Lola Dawn Fennell, general manager of the Prince George Council of Seniors Resource Centre, which took the lead on the event’s organization. Booths included community support, seniors’ housing, activities, financial and estate planning and health care.

“The fair organizers gave us the use nice to see it filled with seniors,” said Fennell, who was dressed for the fair’s theme of Blue Jeans and Country Dreams in a jaunty pink cowboy hat, bright pink scarf and blue jeans with a golf shirt that features the Prince George Council of Seniors new logo that says Empowerment, Information and Advocacy.

The local council of seniors partnered with Baldy Hughes Therapeutic Commu- nity & Farm to help provide a light lunch to seniors for a nominal fee. The treatment facility’s residents provided 1,000 sandwiches for those in attendance who took advantage of what was on offer at the Chuckwagon Cafe. Cookies, coffee and tea were also available.

Carpet bowling demonstrations were a popular feature for enthusiastic seniors and during the event as seniors visited each booth they could enter their name for prizes, play interactive games and have their passport stamped that would later be collected and put into a draw for - sion, jewelry and gift baskets.

“The one-day event has brought us all together in a one-stop information shop and it was very well-attended this year as it has every year since we started,” said Fennell.
