DeBrouwer stones Eagles
Evan DeBrouwer made 26 saves to earn his third career BCHL shutout Friday and keep the Prince George Spruce Kings undefeated this season.
Their 5-0 win over the visiting Surrey Eagles at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena solidified the Kings’ hold on first place in the BCHL Mainland Division as they improved to 2-0-1 in front of a crowd of 862.
Patrick Cozzi and Ben Brar, the game’s first star, each picked up a goal and an assist to pace the Spruce Kings’ attack. Kyle Johnson, Ben Poisson and Ethan de Jong also scored.
Alex Horawski took the loss in the Surrey nets, stopping 27 of 32 shots. DeBrouwer, acquired in an offseason trade from the Nanaimo Clippers, was under siege in the third period as the Eagles outshot the Kings 12-1.
The Kings went 1-for-6 on the power play while Surrey finished 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
It was the first loss of the season for the Eagles (1-1-1).
