Deadly drunk driver jailed

A Ques­nel man was sen­tenced Tues­day to two years less a day for a deadly and drunken car crash that ended the life of a Prince Ge­orge teen.

Cody Robert Fran­cis Dan was also sen­tenced to one year pro­ba­tion and is­sued a three-year driv­ing pro­hi­bi­tion for the ear­ly­morn­ing Aug. 16, 2012 crash on the Nazko High­way.

Dan’s car was near Long Road where it down an steep em­bank­ment, hit a large tree stump and burst into flames, ac­cord­ing to ac­counts from the B.C. Coroners Ser­vice and the RCMP at the time.

Pas­sen­ger Larry Dal­las Barry Lau­rent, 17, died at the scene. Dan, who as 19 at the time, was taken to hospi­tal in Ques­nel for treat­ment of non-life threat­en­ing in­juries fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent.

Dan was is­sued the sen­tence dur­ing a hear­ing in B.C. Supreme Court in Ques­nel on a count of drunk driv­ing caus­ing death. He was also sen­tenced to 30 days in jail for tak­ing a ve­hi­cle with­out con­sent.
