Peewees golden in Kelowna

The Vik­ing Con­struc­tion Cougars claimed tour­na­ment gold in thrilling fash­ion last week­end in Kelowna.

The Cougars, a pee­wee Tier 1 rep team from the Prince Ge­orge Mi­nor Hockey As­so­ci­a­tion, clashed with the Nanaimo Clip­pers in the cham­pi­onship game and won 5-4 in a shootout. Over­all, the Cats posted a 4-1 record. They started with a 4-2 win against the Van­cou­ver Thun­der­birds, lost 8-5 to the Clip­pers, edged Co­quit­lam 4-3 and downed Juan de Fuca 5-4 in the play­off semi­fi­nal round.

The Cougars com­pete in the Okana­gan Main­line Am­a­teur Hockey As­so­ci­a­tion. Their home tour­na­ment is Jan. 5-7.

This week­end, the Panago midget Tier 2 Cougars will host an eight-team event. Games will start on Fri­day at 8 a.m. at the Kin Cen­tre. The first con­test for the Cats will see them take on Chilli­wack at 11 a.m. at Kin 1. Later that day, at 4:30 p.m., the Cougars will meet Fort St. John on the same ice sur­face.

Round-robin play con­tin­ues for the Cougars at 8:45 a.m. Satur­day (Kin 1) against Cen­tral Okana­gan and they’ll meet Ter­race at 6 p.m. at Kin 3.

The cham­pi­onship game is sched­uled for 1 p.m. Sun­day at Kin 2.
