Cibulkova, Oudin out in Texas


GRAPEVINE, Texas — Sec­ond-seeded Do­minika Cibulkova and Me­lanie Oudin both were up­ended in Wed­nes­day’s sec­on­dround ac­tion at the in­au­gu­ral $220,000 Texas Ten­nis Open, a U.S. Open tune-up.

Slo­vakian Cibulkova was de­feated 6-3, 6-1 by Ukrainian qual­i­fier Kateryna Bon­darenko af­ter 62 min­utes on the hard courts at Hil­ton DFW Lakes Ho­tel. Bon­darenko will now play fifth-seeded Sabina Lisicki, who bested Al­berta Bri­anti in straight sets on Tues­day.

Wild-card Oudin fell to Ger­man qual­i­fier An­gelique Kerber, who posted a 6-3, 6-2 win. Kerber ad­vanced to face Jo­hanna Lars­son.

Other win­ners on the day were France’s Ara­vane Rezai, who took down Ro­ma­nian So­rana Cirstea by 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), and Lat­vian Anas­tasija Sev­as­tova, a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win­ner over Swe­den’s Sofia Arvids­son.
