-

Come walk the planks of more than 20 classic and working ships at Ships to Shore Steveston 2015 from June 29 through Canada Day. Stay late on Canada Day for a special fireworks show over the historic Steveston waterfront. A trio of the Royal Canadian Navy’s Orca-class patrol ships will lead the flotilla of classic tall ships and historic and current working vessels making Steveston their port of call for the Ships to Shore festival. The classic tall ships Adventuress and

Odyssey, historic steamship Virginia V and the Canadian Coast Guard’s hovercraft Siyay are among the other unique ships that will be on display. Free boarding of all ships is available from noon to 7:00 p.m. daily at two sites, Imperial Landing and Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, both located on the Steveston waterfront in the City of Richmond. The Canada Day Fireworks are set for 10:15 p.m. near Imperial Landing. Ships to Shore visitors are also warned to watch out for roving pirates on site. Guests can enjoy delicious food and drink offerings from a number of food trucks, take in a wooden boat show and watch dragon boat demonstrations. Visit www.richmond.ca/shipstoshore for details. Steveston is the place to be Canada Day, with numerous fun, free activities for the whole family. Just a few steps away from the Ships to Shore site, the Steveston Salmon Festival, “Canada’s biggest little birthday party” will be celebrating its 70th anniversary on Canada day. The Salmon Festival includes one of the region’s largest Canada Day parades, a salmon bake, a Japanese cultural show, martial arts demonstrations, food fair, children’s festival, youth rock fest, and a car show. This year’s main stage musical line-up is headlined by Vancouver’s ever popular Odds. For more details visit www.stevestonsalmonfest.ca. Steveston’s two national historic sites, the Britannia Shipyards and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery, will also both be open on Canada Day. Drop by both to view great exhibits on the history of Canada’s west coast fishing industry and much more. Parking in Steveston is limited and some road closures will be in place on Canada Day morning due to the Steveston Salmon Festival parade. Festival goers are encouraged to take transit, cycle or walk to avoid traffic and parking congestion. A special free shuttle service will be available on Canada Day.
