Honda introduces sub-$20k Civic hatchback in the U.S.
Honda’s Civic hatchback is returning to North America with a price tag under $20,000 — at least in the U.S.
Starting at $19,700, the base Civic LX hatch comes with Honda’s 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, good for 174 horsepower and 167 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual is standard; you could pair it to a continuously variable transmission for another US$800, but where’s the fun in that?
Move up the Civic hatch lineup and you’ll get a few extra ponies — 180 horsepower and 177 poundfeet of torque to be exact — on the Sport trims and above, but you can only get the six-speed manual on the Sport and LX. Well, you can’t knock Honda for trying to save the manuals.
Like the Civic sedan and coupe, the hatch is available with goodies you’d pretty much expect from cars this day and age, such as heated and power-adjustable seats, Honda’s Display Audio infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as a remote starter — but this last item is probably a CVT-only deal.
The Civic hatch also introduces a new Sport Touring trim, complete with metal pedals, red interior accents and more aggressive exterior styling. All the more reason why we can’t wait for the Si (and Type-R) variants.
Canadian pricing has yet to be announced, but it’ll launch here later this fall.
