FOR MORE ON EARLYBIRD RV SHOW & SALE

-

The 2018 Earlybird RV Show and Sale will showcase informative travel seminars, the latest in RV trends and products and a number of featured exhibitors, including Okanagan College which will be highlighting information about its program for RV service technicians.

“Many people attending the show come armed with questions about our program,” says program instructor and Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association of B.C. board member Jon Itterman.

“They want to know everything from what our internationally renowned program offers, to what sort of job opportunities there are upon graduation.”

The college’s foundation program, a 28-week RV service technician program, is industry-led and trains students in electrical systems, mechanics, plumbing, gas-fitting, construction and carpentry. Students get firsthand experience with the most recent equipment and techniques used in the industry.

Graduates of the foundation program receive credit for Level 1 Apprenticeship technical training and may also be granted practical credit from the Industry Training Authority.

Okanagan College also offers a certification option for those after a Red Seal endorsement, Canada’s recognized standard of excellence for skilled trades.

It is the only post-secondary institution in the province to offer these training options.

Show producer Amanda Henschell says the show itself serves as a testament to the strength of the industry and is an event that continues to maintain its long-standing tradition of supporting industry partners.

“We have always understood the importance of showcasing the growth of the industry which includes working with partners like Okanagan College. The exposure

at our shows allows them to amplify their program messaging and answer any questions prospective students might have,” explains

Henschell. “To that end and in recognizing the college’s crucial role in supporting a growing industry, we also provide funds toward the RV Technician scholarship foundation which assists students during their RV service technician program.”

RV Dealers Association of Canada (RVDA) president Eleonore Hamm suggests demand for RV service technicians only continues to grow.

“Our members in B.C. currently employ over 200 RV service technicians. With anticipated growth in new unit sales of 20 per cent this year, as was the case in 2017, we know that there will be numerous RV service technician jobs available this year,” says Hamm.

The Earlybird Show and Sale is considered Greater Vancouver’s one-stop resource for those looking to plan a family getaway, road trip or even just a weekend getaway. Catering to all different needs and lifestyles, the show has answers for those just beginning to plan their RV journey or RV veterans who have an abundance of mileage under their belts.
