Pedestrian hit by SUV suffers life-threatening injuries
A 31-year-old woman is in hospital with what police describe as “life-threatening injuries” after she was struck by an SUV in Richmond on Tuesday.
The woman, who Richmond RCMP say is a visitor to Canada, was hit by a Nissan SUV, driven by a 66-year old man from Richmond, on St. Albans Road near General Currie Road. The area surrounding the collision was cordoned off for several hours while police investigated.
“This is our first major pedestrian collision of 2019. We sincerely wish to remind everyone to exercise special care whether you are in a vehicle, on bicycle or on foot,” said Cpl. Dennis Hwang. “This was a very traumatic and unfortunate ordeal. It was heartwarming to see the community help and provide comfort to the injured.”
Hwang says the driver of the SUV is co-operating with police. RCMP don’t believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. No names were released.
