Maple Ridge shooting victim drove himself to hospital
Police say the man shot in Maple Ridge over the weekend drove himself to hospital.
In an update Tuesday morning, Ridge Meadows RCMP said the man was in his vehicle around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday near Selkirk and 223rd Street when a second vehicle approached and several shots were fired into the man’s white Hyundai.
“There was no ‘return fire’ or exchange of gun shots between the two vehicles,” said RCMP Const. Julie Klaussner in a news release.
The man who was shot, a 30-year-old who is known to police, had serious injuries. Investigators say the shooting was targeted.
“We take public safety very seriously and the public should be concerned when there is a shooting,” said Klaussner. “In this incident, police were on scene within minutes of the calls and were quickly able to determine this was an isolated, targeted incident and not a random shooting.”
Investigators have spoken to witnesses but are asking the public to provide any surveillance video or dashboard camera footage they may have of the shooting. Anyone who has information, or who hasn’t yet spoken to police, is asked to call RCMP Const. Josh Brushett at 604-463-6251.
