King street closure
Council approved the closure of a portion of King’s St., although not in a way that affects traffic. A portion of a resident’s home is on land the Region of Queens owned, and the resident had asked to have the deed to that portion of the land.
Council approved the destruction of old records that are no longer needed by the Region of Queens. Municipal Clerk Chris McNeill will carry out the destruction
Salt tender awarded
The tender for the trucking of bulk salt was awarded to Donald Whynot Trucking Ltd. for the 2009/2010 winter season. The cost will be $37.40 per metric tonne plus HST, which is a $1.55 decrease from last season.
Arena ad rates
Council approved the rates for advertising panels at the Queens Memorial Arena. From Jan. until Aug. 2010, a 4x8ft is $100, 4x12 is $150 and 4x16 is $200. The following year it will increase to $150, $225 and $300 respectively. Advertising on the Zamboni will cost $250 per side.
Council authorized Mayor
Leefe and Councillor Owen Hamlin to attend the Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia summit taking place in Halifax from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.
Council voted to adopt a Violence Prevention Plan for the Region of Queens Municipality workplace. This involved a hazard assessment of all municipal workplaces.
