Queens General Hospital Auxiliary News
We are maintaining our membership numbers and rumor has it we may even get some new members in the fall.
Our fundraising continues. We are fortunate that 3 young people have volunteered to coordinate and organize our annual Hospital Hustle. This is our main fundraiser held each year in September.
In response to requests from Queens General Hospital our Auxiliary purchased $57,000 worth of equipment in the past year. Purchases included new furniture for the quiet room – a place for families to retreat and recharge when coping with the stress of the illness of a loved one.
Other purchases made in 2016 were a shower commode, shower stretcher, 4 over the bed tables, ipad mini and case (for use in music therapy program), bariatric waiting room chair, stat manikin with ecg/pacing simulator.
We have also committed $20,000 to other purchases – replacement furniture for the emergency waiting room and treatment rooms. The purchases may seem small but each one makes a big difference to the quality of the working life of hospital staff and patients.
Our Auxiliary continues to operate the hospital gift shop. We are looking for more volunteers so we can maintain the current hours of operation.
Members of the Auxiliary attended the Education Seminar in Truro in April and the Western Regional Meetings in November 2016 and May 2017.
Long service pins were presented to the following: Dale Wolfe – 41 years; Peggy Atkinson – 35 years; Lillian Croft – 30 years; Gloria Meers – 15 years; Phyllis Mckiel – 10 years.
