A tropical response to Donald Trump

The Recorder & Times (Brockville) - - OPINION -

Here’s a wonderfully tropical idea for an asymmetric response to Donald Trump’s trade war: Parliament should follow through on decades of talk about Turks and Caicos joining Canada.

Consider that somewhere around half a million Canadians spend their winters in Florida. There could be a significant impact if some of those Canadian Snowbirds could find palm trees and sunshine while staying on new Canadian soil, spending Canadian dollars in Canada.

And imagine the economic opportunity for the 30,000 Turks and Caicos residents with fellow-Canadians as long-term tourists. Canadian Club would taste pretty good in a fruity drink with an umbrella while you sit on a beach in Turks and Caicos in the middle of a Canadian winter.
