Man se­ri­ously hurt

A man was taken to hospi­tal with se­ri­ous in­juries af­ter be­ing pinned un­der a ve­hi­cle while cross­ing Parkedale Av­enue early Tues­day evening.

Po­lice, fire­fight­ers and paramedics were called at 6:24 p.m. to reports of a pedes­trian be­ing struck by a mo­tor ve­hi­cle at the in­ter­sec­tion of Parkedale and Or­mond Street.

The pedes­trian was struck while cross­ing the in­ter­sec­tion by a white Toy­ota High­lander, said po­lice. The man was pinned by the back wheels of the ve­hi­cle and had to be ex­tri­cated by Brockville fire­fight­ers.

“He was trans­ported to the Brockville Gen­eral Hospi­tal with se­ri­ous in­juries,” said po­lice.

As the evening wore on, of­fi­cers blocked off the usu­ally busy cor­ner to con­tinue their in­ves­ti­ga­tion. On­tario Pro­vin­cial Po­lice traf­fic col­li­sion in­ves­ti­ga­tors were asked to help with the in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

More than an hour af­ter the col­li­sion, po­lice were still redi­rect­ing traf­fic and a blan­ket lay on the pave­ment at the in­ter­sec­tion. One of­fi­cer was in­spect­ing the High­lander while oth­ers in­ter­viewed a late-mid­dle-aged man in a cruiser.
