RCMP present Klondike cheques

This year, the RCMP raised just over $53,000 dur­ing its an­nual Klondike Night fundraiser.

The money will be di­vided be­tween the Chil­dren’s Wish Foun­da­tion and the Air Cadet League of NL.

Each char­ity re­ceived a cheque for $26,575 yes­ter­day at the RCMP White Hills head­quar­ters. RCMP Com­mand­ing Of­fi­cer As­sis­tant Com­mis­sioner Bill Smith, Insp. Leigh Des­Roches and rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the char­i­ties be­ing sup­ported fi­nan­cially were present.

The RCMP Klondike Night is held ev­ery year at the Royal Cana­dian Mounted Po­lice Head­quar­ters in St. John’s. Ap­prox­i­mately 1,000 peo­ple at­tend each year for an evening of live mu­sic, a buf­fet sup­per, silent auc­tion and gam­bling casino.

This was the 27th such pre­sen­ta­tion and to date the Klondike com­mit­tee has turned over ap­prox­i­mately $750,000 to 36 char­i­ties within New­found­land and Labrador.
