The Burin Peninsula chapter of Ducks Unlimited is celebrating a successful partnership with Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador’s Green Team in Marystown.

The organization provided the team with nesting boxes that they installed along walking trails around the Marystown and Burin area.

Ducks Unlimited identified the locations as having a population of birds that nest in those areas.

“Two years ago we did a partnership with Pearce Junior High, where we provided the funding for all the materials, and the school offered an afterschool program where kids produced 30 nesting boxes,” said Jody Brushett, chair of the local chapter of Ducks Unlimited.

The organization spent the last two years trying to find a group that they could partner with for the installation of the boxes, he said.

“This year Smallwood (Cresent Community Centre) came to us, said that had a project with the Conservation Corps and were wondering if we were interested in partnering with the Green Team to have some work done,” Brushett said.
