Burin harbour supervisor awarded DFO’s Prix d’Excellence
Marguerite Drake of the Harbour Authority of Burin has been awarded the 2016 national Prix d’Excellence in the category of national individual commitment.
The Prix d’Excellence is one of the most prestigious awards presented by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO). It honours teams and individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the success of the department’s harbour authority program.
Drake has been the harbour supervisor and bookkeeper for the harbour of Burin since 2003.
For the last seven years, she has played a key role in the development of a mentoring program to provide hands-on financial training to harbour authority members across the province.
“I would like to express my appreciation and thanks for being bestowed with such an honour,” Drake said in a news release.
“I am grateful for the hard work of my dedicated colleagues in making the small craft harbour network in Newfoundland and Labrador what it is today.”
Public Services and Procurement Minister Judy Foote presented Drake with the award on Thursday on behalf of federal Fisheries Minister Dominic LeBlanc.
