Marystown’s Ryan Brock­erville fifth in Fran­co­phone Games steeple­chase

Marystown na­tive Ryan Brock­erville was less than three sec­onds short of a podium fin­ish in the men’s 3,000-me­tre steeple­chase at the 2017 Jeux Fran­co­phonie (Fran­co­phone Games) in Abid­jan, Ivory Coast on Africa’s west coast July 24.

Brock­erville’s fin­ish­ing time of eight min­utes, 56.58 sec­onds put him fifth in the race. The bronze medal­list from Tu­nisia had an 8:53.76 clock­ing.

The 27-year-old Brock­erville, who works and trains in Bri­tish Columbia, was one of two New­found­lan­ders who com­peted in track at the Games. Sprinter Daniel Kel­loway of Mount Pearl, a fel­low Si­mon Fraser Uni­ver­sity alum­nus, ran in the 400m.
