Marystown’s Ryan Brockerville fifth in Francophone Games steeplechase
Marystown native Ryan Brockerville was less than three seconds short of a podium finish in the men’s 3,000-metre steeplechase at the 2017 Jeux Francophonie (Francophone Games) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Africa’s west coast July 24.
Brockerville’s finishing time of eight minutes, 56.58 seconds put him fifth in the race. The bronze medallist from Tunisia had an 8:53.76 clocking.
The 27-year-old Brockerville, who works and trains in British Columbia, was one of two Newfoundlanders who competed in track at the Games. Sprinter Daniel Kelloway of Mount Pearl, a fellow Simon Fraser University alumnus, ran in the 400m.
