Rex Matthews to serve another term
Rex Matthews has been returned by acclamation as Mayor of the Town of Grand Bank.
He was the only candidate to file nomination papers for the position of Mayor on Tuesday (Sept. 5), nomination day.
This will be Matthews’ second consecutive term as Mayor. He was elected in 2013 beating out Darrell Lafosse.
In his 25 years serving in municipal politics, Matthews has held the Mayor chair in previous years.
He first took the chair in November 1985, he continued on as Mayor until October 1997, when Clayton Welsh became mayor.
Matthews returned as Mayor in September 2001 serving two consecutive terms, before losing the election to Lafosse in 2009.
Five current council members have submitted their names for re-election, as well as four newcomers to the ballot.
An advance poll will take place on Sept. 19 at the Grand Bank Municipal Centre. Polling booths on election day (Sept. 26) will be located at the Partanna Auditorium.
