Marystown Fire celebrates another year
Department holds 46 annual Firefighters Banquet
The Marystown Volunteer Fire Department held its annual firefighters banquet on Oct. 14 at St. Gabriel’s Hall in Marystown.
During the evening Fire Chief Alex Coady gave his annual report for the department.
In 2017 the department received 58 emergency calls and attended numerous training courses and drills.
The department took part in many community events such as the annual Christmas parade, bonfire night and more.
Members marked the department’s 50th anniversary by hosting a number of events such as an open house at the fire hall, a meet and greet for past and present members of the department, along with other events.
The department’s muscular dystrophy committee raised $2,500. The money was donated to Muscular Dystrophy Canada
Dora Cribb and Lesley Ann Burry, daughters of the late Melvin Lambe, presented a memorial scholarship in their father’s honour to Christopher Gouzvaris, son of now-retired firefighter George Gouzvaris.
The following firefighters were recognized for years of service with the Marystown Fire Department: Jerry Hanrahan, 30 years; Hubert Ayers, 25 years; Ralph Walsh, 20 years; Rodney Nolan and Justin Bolt, five years. Members of the Fire Wrens, the ladies’ auxiliary, received tokens of appreciation. Fire Wren Peggy Clarke was recognized for her 20 years of service with the association
