Marys­town Fire cel­e­brates another year

Depart­ment holds 46 an­nual Fire­fight­ers Ban­quet

The Marys­town Vol­un­teer Fire Depart­ment held its an­nual fire­fight­ers ban­quet on Oct. 14 at St. Gabriel’s Hall in Marys­town.

Dur­ing the evening Fire Chief Alex Coady gave his an­nual re­port for the depart­ment.

In 2017 the depart­ment re­ceived 58 emer­gency calls and at­tended nu­mer­ous train­ing cour­ses and drills.

The depart­ment took part in many com­mu­nity events such as the an­nual Christ­mas pa­rade, bon­fire night and more.

Mem­bers marked the depart­ment’s 50th an­niver­sary by host­ing a num­ber of events such as an open house at the fire hall, a meet and greet for past and present mem­bers of the depart­ment, along with other events.

The depart­ment’s mus­cu­lar dys­tro­phy com­mit­tee raised $2,500. The money was do­nated to Mus­cu­lar Dys­tro­phy Canada

Dora Cribb and Les­ley Ann Burry, daugh­ters of the late Melvin Lambe, pre­sented a memo­rial schol­ar­ship in their fa­ther’s hon­our to Christo­pher Gouz­varis, son of now-re­tired fire­fighter Ge­orge Gouz­varis.
