Old Blackhawks logo must be covered up

In a recorded vote, council unanimously decided to permit the Thorold Blackhawks to wear jerseys with the former controversial logo for the team’s upcoming tryout purposes only, providing the logos are either removed or covered. After much discussion, the original logo — which depicted a caricature of an Indigenous player similar to that depicted in the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks logo — was changed after being perceived as objectionable to Indigenous people.
