Pumpkinville event Saturday at Happy Rolph’s
St. Catharines’ longest-running free family event takes place Saturday in all its pumpkin glory. Pumpkinville features pumpkincarving contests, hay diving, scarecrow building, face painting, crafts, games and more.
It’s being held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Happy Rolph’s Animal Farm, 650 Read Rd.
The first 500 families will receive free pumpkins to use in the pumpkin-carving contests, courtesy of Meridian Credit Union. Carving tools will also be supplied. Judging begins at 1:30 p.m.
The Niagara IceDogs will host the scarecrow-building stations. Stakes, straw and clothing will be provided, but families are encouraged to bring their own old clothing and other accessories to dress up their scarecrows. Parking is limited at the site but free parking will be available at select nearby businesses. Signs for the free lots will be posted. A free shuttle bus is running from Grantham Lions Club at 732 Niagara St. to Happy Rolph’s from 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The event is free but the city advises that some activities such as family photos in the barn and food and beverages have a small fee.
