Pump­kinville event Satur­day at Happy Rolph’s

St. Catharines’ long­est-run­ning free fam­ily event takes place Satur­day in all its pump­kin glory. Pump­kinville fea­tures pump­kin­car­v­ing con­tests, hay div­ing, scare­crow build­ing, face paint­ing, crafts, games and more.

It’s be­ing held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Happy Rolph’s An­i­mal Farm, 650 Read Rd.

The first 500 fam­i­lies will re­ceive free pump­kins to use in the pump­kin-carv­ing con­tests, cour­tesy of Merid­ian Credit Union. Carv­ing tools will also be sup­plied. Judg­ing be­gins at 1:30 p.m.

The Ni­a­gara IceDogs will host the scare­crow-build­ing sta­tions. Stakes, straw and cloth­ing will be pro­vided, but fam­i­lies are en­cour­aged to bring their own old cloth­ing and other ac­ces­sories to dress up their scare­crows. Park­ing is lim­ited at the site but free park­ing will be avail­able at se­lect nearby busi­nesses. Signs for the free lots will be posted. A free shut­tle bus is run­ning from Gran­tham Li­ons Club at 732 Ni­a­gara St. to Happy Rolph’s from 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The event is free but the city ad­vises that some ac­tiv­i­ties such as fam­ily pho­tos in the barn and food and bev­er­ages have a small fee.
