Pelham Home and Garden Show has something for everybody

- LAURA BARTON

The Pelham Home and Garden Show returns to Pelham Arena this weekend.

Hosted annually by Fonthill and District Kinsmen, the show begins Friday and offers a wide variety of exhibitors who can help people with home projects.

“It’s been a fairly long winter, so people are anxious to get out and see what they can reno their houses with,” said Kinsmen spokesman Ryan McKay.

He said many people are eager to start their do-it-yourself projects, but also want to support the local community.

Whether people are looking for a business to help with landscaping needs or home renovations, he said, there is something at the show for everyone.

The show features a 10-metre-long jet dragster called Northern Warrior as one of its attractions. He said the driver will be there singing autographs.

Having been around for more than 20 years, the show attracts many people over its three days. McKay said in the past few years the trend has been 1,200 to 1,300 people over the course of the weekend.

He attributes the popularity to the desire to support local businesses, the $3 admission price and the fact that money raised goes toward a good cause. This year, all funds are earmarked for Pelham Cares.

He said the show is the Kinsmen’s biggest fundraising event of the year, bringing in 60 per cent to 70 per cent of the funds it raises over the year.

“We really look forward to the community coming out and supporting us. We love being a part of the community, we love putting on these types of events,” he said.

This weekend’s show at Pelham Arena on Haist Street runs Friday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
