City doctor releases children’s book
Have you seen the sock burglar? We have all pondered the mystery of where our socks have disappeared to.
Local physician Yannick Charette has written a charming children’s book that uncovers the secret of those missing socks with the Sock Burglar. From the cleverly written story to the beautiful illustrations from local artist Monique Legault, the book is one that both children and adults will enjoy.
Join the author at the book launch and signing on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Chapters.
The Sock Burglar is available to purchase in both French and English at Chapters Sudbury and online at www.sockburglar.com for $13.99 (plus HST).
A father of four young children, Charette developed the concept of the Sock Burglar while telling bedtime stories to his children. As his children began to gain more interest into the story of the Sock Burglar, the story began to grow. He soon realized that this was a story to which any child or adult could relate.
“I was inspired to write the Sock Burglar from the interest of my children and family,” Charette said in a release. “It really became something that we were all involved in. Each character brings a unique and important attribute to the story.
“They also play an important role in developing an inclusive and intriguing storyline that sparks children’s imaginations.”
Each character brings a new layer to the mystery of those missing socks, while teaching children about compassion, acceptance and curiosity.
Children (or adults) can further explore each character and their creativity with the Sock Burglar colouring book.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of the Sock Burglar colouring book will be donated to NEO Kids Foundation.
The colouring book was also illustrated by Legault. Go online or visit the Sock Burglar on Facebook (thesockburglar) to read each of the burglar bios.
“The Sock Burglar is a book that can be enjoyed by anyone — both young and old,” Patricia Mills, president of NEO Kids Foundation, said. “It is an incredibly unique opportunity for NEO Kids Foundation to partner with, given the local aspect of the book. We are very excited to be a partner with the Sock Burglar and grateful for Dr. Charette to have selected NEO Kids.”
