Jail liabilities too spooky

The Sun Times (Owen Sound) - - NEWS -

The Spooky Bruce event at the Walkerton Jail has been cancelled due to cost assessments and liability concerns. The Bruce 150 committee made the decision to cancel the event, which was scheduled for Oct. 27-29. “The logistics of moving patrons through the jail in a safe manner was of utmost concern,” the group said in a news release. “Walkerton Jail is a building designed to keep people in. Considering that, the layout of the building and its small entryways created safety concerns and accessibility issues.” The committee had several meetings to discuss risk mitigation, but made the difficult decision to cancel the Halloween adventure, and focus efforts on other upcoming projects the news release said. Upcoming events include the Bruce 150 art reveal at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre on Sept. 27 and the Bruce 150 time capsule dedication in December. The Bruce County Outreach trailer can also be visited at various locations, listed at www.brucecounty150.ca.
