Saugeen Shores po­lice charged a 24-year-old Sar­nia man with ar­son and mis­chief over $5,000 af­ter a shed, home and car on Winch­field Road in Southamp­ton were dam­aged. Po­lice said in a news re­lease Sun­day that at 2:15 a.m. Fri­day, the vic­tim woke up and found her back­yard shed en­gulfed in flames. When she went out­side she found that the house and her ve­hi­cle had also been dam­aged. Saugeen Shores fire and po­lice at­tended. In­for­ma­tion from the fire­fight­ers in­di­cated “the shed fire had been set in­ten­tion­ally. The shed and con­tents were com­pletely de­stroyed,” the po­lice news re­lease said.

“All four sides of the house were ex­ten­sively spray painted with vul­gar word­ing. The ve­hi­cle was also spray painted and scratched. Foam in­su­la­tion was sprayed into the gas tank,” po­lice said in the re­lease. A sus­pect, whom po­lice said is known to the com­plainant, was iden­ti­fied later in the day.

A 24-year-old man from Sar­nia was ar­rested and charged with crim­i­nal ha­rass­ment, ar­son, mis­chief over $5,000, tres­pass at night and two counts of fail to com­ply with pro­ba­tion.

He was held in cus­tody and is to ap­pear by video in bail court Nov. 14. He has been charged with crim­i­nal ha­rass­ment, ar­son, mis­chief over $5,000, tres­pass at night, and two counts of fail to com­ply with pro­ba­tion.
