Jewelry store theft
Elgin Jewellers in Port Elgin was the target of a smash and grab theft during a power outage Friday, Saugeen Shores police say.
A rock was used to smash the front display window at the store at 690 Goderich St. sometime in the early morning of Nov. 10, police said in a news release Sunday. Items were stolen from the display area but there was no further entry into the store. Police were still working with the owner to obtain a complete list of the stolen items. Police said a possible DNA sample was collected as evidence.
“At the time of the incident, areas of Port Elgin, including the downtown core were dealing with a hydro outage. The outage was caused by a tree coming down on electrical lines in the area of Goderich and River streets, the police news release said.
