Jew­elry store theft

El­gin Jewellers in Port El­gin was the tar­get of a smash and grab theft dur­ing a power out­age Fri­day, Saugeen Shores po­lice say.

A rock was used to smash the front dis­play win­dow at the store at 690 Goderich St. some­time in the early morn­ing of Nov. 10, po­lice said in a news re­lease Sun­day. Items were stolen from the dis­play area but there was no fur­ther en­try into the store. Po­lice were still work­ing with the owner to ob­tain a com­plete list of the stolen items. Po­lice said a pos­si­ble DNA sam­ple was col­lected as ev­i­dence.

“At the time of the in­ci­dent, ar­eas of Port El­gin, in­clud­ing the down­town core were deal­ing with a hy­dro out­age. The out­age was caused by a tree com­ing down on elec­tri­cal lines in the area of Goderich and River streets, the po­lice news re­lease said.
